After hearing the word "karate" People often think of the physical aspects of this martial art. The kicks, punches and other seemingly impossible moves of karate masters are only the surface of what is truly a martial art steeped philosophy. For someone who wants to enter in karate, it would be desirable to include some of the long history and profound philosophy that helped karate do what it is today. By understanding the philosophy and the history of defensive martial art known as karate, population will be better prepared to take advantage of the many physical and mental benefits that karate has to offer. This article will cover the basics of history and philosophy karate, and discuss karate in the contemporary context.

Karate: historical martial art

Like other forms of martial arts, karate has a long and colorful history. Karate originated in the Ryukyu Islands of Japan, even if it is a martial art that has been strongly influenced by Chinese kung fu and taekwondo Koren. In the 1300s and 1400s, many Chinese families moved to Okinawa, Japan, and they brought with them the different forms of chinese martial arts. These martial arts and other parts of Chinese culture were assimilated into Japanese culture.

In the 1600s, a policy was adopted in Japan, by prohibiting the use of weapons. It was during this period that karate began to take root and flourish in Japan. The Japanese term "karate" means "empty hand", because was conceived as a form of self-defense during the weapons ban. This martial art take many Chinese "kata" ( "form" or "model") used in their martial arts to reinvent themselves and their development in different kata in karate, or the fight against positions and postures. Many people begin teaching various forms of karate in Japan and around the 1800s onwards.

Karate: a philosophy honor

Many forms of karate were developed over the years, each with its own philosophy and perception of the martial art. In its original context, however, the philosophy of Karate is a form of self-defense should be used only as a last resort. Those who practice karate training their bodies and minds, promoting not only physical and mental health but also spiritual health. The philosophy of karate is vast, but the most influential factors were Taoism, Buddhism and the code of Bushido.

Today Karate

Karate has come a long way since its origins in the Ryukyu Islands. Although there are still a number of people living in the training and methods of traditional karate, This martial art became a popular sport. Many karate tournaments held around the world. Karate dojo, where people can go to learn and train in this martial art have arisen in place around the world. Since karate has become so widespread, many countries have developed their own style of karate. In the Philippines, For example, Arnis Karate developed as a combination of karate and the martial art of Filipino Arnis.
